News Release Date
10-16-2023
On September 5, 2023 the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced that a special program has been set up, where EGLE and local health departments are working together to help Michigan families know the quality of their well water.
Residents with a private well that want to know if the water is safe can:
- Talk with your local health department (Genesee County Health Department) about wells in your area.
- Go to the EGLE website Michigan.gov/EGLEPrivateWells to request a water test kit; or stop by the Fenton Township Office as we have a limited supply on hand.
As of October 16, 2023 EGLE has low-cost kits available statewide to ensure private well water safety.
To pick up a well water test kit is free; to have EGLE run the test(s) there is a fee depending upon which test(s) you are having run.
Once you receive your results, the local health department will break down the results for you; and what the results mean for your well and your drinking water.
